About 51% of fourth-grade students in our state are still not reading proficiently. In addition, we have a significant gap in the literacy proficiency rate of children with disabilities.

The New Hampshire Department of Education supports a number of efforts to support families to help their children learn to read, including children with special needs.

One of these efforts is the Parent Information Center, which is offering this set of online resources:

Families as Partners in Literacy is a 5-part online module series created to empower families and caregivers of young children with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to support their child’s reading development. Rooted in the science of reading and the principles of Structured Literacy, the series promotes stronger family-school partnerships and helps caregivers become active participants in their child’s literacy journey.

Children’s Scholarship Fund of NH is also holding a National School Choice Showcase & Fair on Wednesday, January 28, from 10am to noon at the Grappone Conference Center, Granite Ballroom. Be prepared to be entertained!

We’re also starting to plan EdOpt Fairs for the spring. Look for fairs in Nashua, Moultonborough, and other places. Let us know if you want to organize one in your area!
