Interviewed by Hal Shurtleff of Camp Constitution, we learn about Education Options New Hampshire (EdOpt). Founded and led by Jody Underwood, EdOpt is a 501(c)(3) that helps Granite State families discover K–12 learning pathways. These pathways suit their individual needs and preferences. They do this through a variety of tailored resources and guidance.
EdOpt hosts 2–3 hour local school choice fairs statewide. Moreover, they curate providers and offer guidance on homeschooling, co‑ops, micro‑schools/learning centers, charter and private schools, and New Hampshire’s “alternative pathways.” These include Learn Everywhere and dual enrollment.
Underwood—drawing on 12+ years on the Croydon School Board and a PhD in learning sciences—stresses fit and mastery over seat time. He clarifies common misconceptions, for example, homeschooling needn’t be solitary or expensive. Additionally, co‑ops can share costs and hire specialists. Underwood also points families to under‑used community venues like church halls, libraries, and civic spaces that can host programs.
EdOpt’s website functions as a growing “education navigation” hub. Providers can add or edit listings, and families can subscribe for updates. Furthermore, communities can replicate the model in other states. The through‑line: practical, local, parent‑empowering options.
New Hampshire’s education ecosystem is wider than most families realize. EdOpt operationalizes that breadth—making it easier to discover, credit, and fund high‑fit learning.
