Claremont timeline, tick tock

EdOpt is hosting an Education Options Fair in Claremont, on October 6 from 5-7pm, because of the district’s financial crisis.

The Claremont School District secured a payday loan for their $5M deficit, which will take them through March. At this point, no one knows what will happen after that.

Now, more than ever, Claremont parents need to take responsibility for their children’s education.

But first, they must learn about all their options. They may not know it, but they have a good chance of finding something that works better for their families.

Within 45 minutes of Claremont are tuition-free charter schools and a large and active homeschool community.

A short update on Claremont

The Claremont school board has made some hard decisions. They get credit for that.

  • They are closing the Bluff Elementary School, despite parents being up in arms about it. They are moving all the students with their teachers and paras to two other schools. That should ease the transition.
  • They have started an audit going back to FY22. The school board was kept in the dark. Of course, school boards exist to make sure money is spent responsibly. They should look into the School District Governance Association (SDGA), which provides webinars and other support on school budgets, school board responsibilities, and many other relevant topics that school board members won’t hear about otherwise.
  • Community members are raising money to keep sports and other extracurriculars running. They’ve already raised many thousands of dollars -- I heard they raised $10,000 at a carwash! If only the same level of effort went into keeping good teachers. Many teachers are leaving Claremont, and who can blame them?

Families who are concerned about this need to attend an EdOpt Fair. Please share the word with anyone you know in the area.

The Fair is a chance to meet people from charter schools, homeschool and homeschool co-ops, homeschool activities, private and religious schools, camps, Children’s Scholarship Fund which oversees Education Freedom Accounts (EFAs), tech centers, and more.

The EdOpt Fair at Claremont is just two weeks away!

EdOpt’s Goals

EdOpt’s aim is to help families understand all their education options, from non-traditional (homeschooling, homeschool co-ops, microschools) to traditional (charter schools, private schools, tech centers, dual enrollment, learn everywhere). Our website lists the education providers options around the state that we know about (please let us know if we’re missing any!) so you can investigate the ones that you’re interested in. EdOpt also provides guidance to help you understand your options. Set up an Education Options consultation today.
