Podcast: Special Needs, Different Paths
What do you do when the school or program your child is in simply isn’t meeting their needs?
In Episode 3 of Choosing School, two parents and a former special education director talk about finding a better fit for children who need something different.
Viviana shares how her family moved from a district developmental program to individualized therapy — and how discovering the way her son processes and communicates changed everything. Brandon talks about finding a small private school where teachers could give his daughter the individual attention she needed, while also confronting long waiting lists for outside services.
And Robert, a former special education director, offers a perspective from inside the system: “What’s important isn’t public, private, this or that. It’s just for parents to have options because even a group of people who are doing their best might just not click with that kid.”
The conversation ultimately comes back to something simple: parents know their children, and they don’t have to settle for the first option they try.
As Viviana puts it, “Stay curious about your kids’ learning and then try different options…. Try different things for a few months and then recalibrate if need be.”
Watch Episode 3 of Choosing School, Special Needs, Different Paths, and hear how these families found their own way forward.

Hudson Fair a success!
This past Saturday, we held an EdOpt Fair at Evergreen Elementary in Hudson. Thanks to Tiffany Diamond for organizing and putting a creative touch on this fair. Thanks to all the education providers who were there, and of course, to all the families who showed up for this excellent fair!
It was the perfect day for an outdoor fair. Almost all the vendors participated in the Trunk-or-Treat and they all provided so many kid activities, including a bouncy house!
There was a really good mix of alternative offerings, including preschool, elementary, microschool, high school, charter school, private school, STEM, enrichment activities, EFAs, camps, and more.
